Santorini Heart Hotel & Spa
Custom aluminium atriums with safety glazing designed and installed for a contemporary hospitality project in Santorini, combining transparency, natural light and discreet integration into Cycladic architecture.
Glass, daylight and Cycladic architecture.
Mparolas Aluminium Systems undertook the construction and installation of aluminium atriums with safety glazing for the Santorini Heart Hotel & Spa in Fira, Santorini.
The hotel is characterised by contemporary Cycladic architecture, clean geometric lines and a strong relationship between interior and exterior spaces.
The new glazed atriums were designed to provide protection and safety without compromising natural light, transparency or the open character of the hospitality environment.
A discreet intervention within a strong Cycladic identity.
White volumes, clean lines, swimming pools and intense Mediterranean light define the architectural character of the hotel.
The aluminium atriums therefore needed to remain visually lightweight and restrained, supporting the architecture rather than competing with it.
Large transparent surfaces and simple aluminium geometry maintain open views while introducing the protection required by the covered spaces below.
Protection without losing the feeling of open space.
The main challenge was to cover and protect selected areas while maintaining the brightness, transparency and spatial openness that define the hotel environment. At the same time, the constructions needed to respond to the safety and durability requirements of a hospitality project in a coastal island setting.
Natural Light
Glazed surfaces preserve daylight and reduce the visual impact of the protective structures.
Transparency
Large glass areas maintain open visual connections across the hotel and pool environment.
Safety & Durability
Safety glazing and robust aluminium construction address the requirements of a hotel application.
Coastal Environment
The construction strategy takes into account the demanding conditions associated with an island location.
Aluminium atriums with safety glazing.
Mparolas Aluminium Systems manufactured and installed glazed aluminium atriums designed to provide safety and protection while preserving maximum transparency and natural illumination within the hotel.
Designed around the experience of the space.
Natural Light
Transparent glazing allows daylight to reach the protected interior areas below.
Unobstructed Views
Large glazed surfaces minimise visual barriers within the hotel and pool environment.
Safety & Strength
Safety glazing is used to address the increased requirements of a hospitality application.
Coastal Application
Materials and construction were selected with the conditions of the Santorini environment in mind.
Transparency backed by structural safety.
In hotel environments, glazed overhead structures must combine visual transparency with an appropriate level of safety and structural reliability.
The atriums therefore incorporate safety glazing, allowing the architecture to remain visually light while providing the protection required for the occupied areas below.
Light becomes part of the interior architecture.
The glazed structures are not limited to exterior protection. They also allow natural light to penetrate into deeper areas of the building.
Against the white Cycladic surfaces, sunlight creates changing patterns throughout the day and reinforces the relationship between the interior architecture and the Santorini sky.
From technical design to installation in Santorini.
The atriums were delivered as a complete aluminium and glazing package, with fabrication and installation coordinated around the architectural requirements of the hotel environment.
Technical Evaluation
Atrium dimensions, support conditions and architectural requirements are evaluated before fabrication.
Aluminium Fabrication
Aluminium structural elements are produced according to the approved project dimensions.
Safety Glazing
Glass elements are incorporated into the atrium construction according to the safety requirements.
On-Site Installation
Final installation integrates aluminium and glazing into the completed hotel architecture.
